A Day in Cortland: History, Hauntings & Hilarity • Register • View Cart •

Step back in time as we explore one of Cortland’s most fascinating landmarks - the 1890 House Museum, home to a rich history... and a few unexplained ghostly visitors.  This stunning 15,000 square-foot limestone mansion was once the residence of Chester F. Wickwire, a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist who, along with his brother, built the Wickwire Wire Mills Factory.  Their innovation in wire weaving led to an empire that produced everything from barbed wire and window screens to corn poppers, coal sieves, and horse muzzles, making them some of the wealthiest industrialists of their time.  The 1890 House is a magnificent example of Chateauesque architecture, featuring parquet floors, jewel-like stained glass windows, rich oak and cherry woodwork, and ornate decorative stenciling. (Please note: Tours include the second and third floors, as well as the cupola.  Unfortunately, these areas are not accessible for those with mobility challenges.) After the tour, we’ll enjoy a relaxing lunch at The View at Sunset Pines, where you’ll dine overlooking beautiful scenery.  Lunch includes a sandwich and salad buffet featuring:
  • Sandwiches on Brioche Rolls (Ham, Tuna, or Chicken Salad)
  • Potato Salad, Pasta Salad, Chips
  • Choice of Coffee, Tea, or Soda
Then it’s time for some laughs at the Cortland Repertory Theater with a performance of The Odd Couple, a classic comedy featuring the hilariously mismatched duo, Felix and Oscar.  Watch the chaos unfold as tidy, neurotic Felix moves in with laid-back, messy Oscar, resulting in a riotous clash of personalities.  History, charm, great food, and big laughs - it’s the perfect day out!
